Marianna is a gorgeous Paso Fino mare. She came to STARS in 2014. Marianna is well known for her beautiful gaits and her pretty looks. Marianna is used mostly for Equine Assisted Learning. She enjoys teaching clients patience. She and her half brother, Brown came to STARS together. They still enjoy running around and playing in the pasture together.
Snickers is a beautiful Haflinger mare that came to STARS in March of 2015. She is a little darker than Jake and has a wavier mane and tail. Snickers in known for her very smooth gaits and her gorgeous mane and tail. Snickers is very good at teaching clients to be assertive when riding off lead. She likes to stop every once in awhile just to see if her rider will make her go or let her get away with a little break.
Kelly is a Paint mare that came to STARS in 2013. She has been used for private riding lessons and horse camp. Her unique markings make her stand out among the other horses. Kelly is a fun little mare and is great for a rider that is learning independent riding skills. She is also great for learning how to canter/lope!
Bert is a Thoroughbred gelding that came to STARS in May of 2009. An interesting fact about Bert is that he used to be a racehorse in Kentucky. However, once he decided he didn’t like actually RUNNING in the races, he was retired and came to us. Since he is the only ex racehorse at STARS, everyone considers him to be famous here!
Jake is a Haflinger gelding that came to STARS in March of 2015. He is short but mighty which makes him perfect for any adult or youth. His size, color, and thick mane and tail make him stand out in the horse crew here at STARS.
Montana, or Monty as some may say, is a Quarter Pony gelding that came to STARS in June of 2013. Montana was used as a trail horse before he came to STARS. We like to ride him on the trails sometimes too, but he will definitely strengthen your arms when you have to pull his head up so he doesn’t eat the grass! He LOVES grass, but he also loves helping our clients in both hippotherapy and therapeutic riding lessons.
Brown is a Paso Fino gelding that came to STARS in 2014 with his half sister, Marianna. Like Marianna, Brown is mainly used in Equine Assisted Learning. Just like Marianna, Brown is very good at teaching his clients patience. In his spare time, Brown enjoys running around in the pasture playing with his pasture buddies and eating hay and grass.
Rico is a Paso Fino gelding that came to STARS in March of 2013. Before STARS, Rico enjoyed living with STARS founders Mark and Sue Wheeler and going on trail rides in the Black Hills. His smooth gaits make him a joy to ride!
Cowboy is a Paint gelding that came to STARS in May of 2013. Before STARS, Cowboy enjoyed barrel racing, and his eyes still light up when he sees three barrels sitting in the arena. Cowboy’s pretty coloring and active movement are sure to make him stand out in a crowd.
Pete is a Quarter Horse gelding that came to STARS in April of 2012. Pete can be recognized by his one blue eye and one brown eye and his cute, compact size. He has been used for many different classes and activities here at the STARS.
Dakota is a Paint mare that came to STARS in August of 2011. Dakota was a barrel racing horse before she came to STARS. Her eyes still light up when she sees three barrels sitting in the arena and she enjoys walking and trotting the pattern during our annual horse show here at the STARS barn.
Larry is a Quarter Horse gelding that came to STARS in 2016. Before coming to STARS, Larry was used for working cattle on a ranch in Nebraska. Larry is well known for his active movement and fun personality! Many people think Larry and Carmel look similar, but you can always tell which one's Larry by his brands from being out on the ranch.
Evie is a Paint mare that came to STARS in January of 2010. Evie has done about everything around the barn from therapeutic riding classes to trail rides and private riding lessons. Evie enjoys her job here at STARS. She also enjoys eating grass, her special treatment massages before class, and regular visits from the horse chiropractor.
Carmel is a Quarter Horse mare that came to STARS in November of 2012, and it didn’t take her long to name herself as queen of the herd. Carmel was a show horse before she came to STARS. Her smooth gaits make her a good horse to learn how to ride on. She has been used for many different classes and activities here at STARS.
